Recipe: Mint Mojitooo!

Hint of Mint Mojito

Ingredients:
10 fresh mint leaves
1/2 lime cut into 4 wedges
2 tblspns white sugar (or to taste)
1 cup ice cubes
1 1/2 fluid ounces white rum
1/2 cup club soda

Directions:
1. Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass.
2. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice.
3. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, muddle again to release the lime juice.
4. Do not strain the mixture.
5. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice.
6. Pour the rum over the ice and fill the glass with carbonated water.
7. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired.
8. Garnish with remaining lime wedges and extra mint.

Mint Mojitos are my absolute favorite next to margaritas! (: They're extremely refreshing and great for a backyard picnic or some lounging by the pool. You can definitely always add more rum if you'd like. Serve with some salsa and chips and you'll be set! Enjoy!

Weekend Warriors

Below are some weekend activities for the amazing weather coming up!

1. Visiting DC - take the kids and yourself out to DC this weekend to soak up sun and walk around the national monuments. We are all so lucky to be living close to the nation's capital and sometimes we don't take advantage of it enough! Take a look at the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and even the reflecting pool. Maybe, pack a picnic basket and lot's of water and sunscreen to enjoy lunch on the national lawn and if you're up for it bring your pet too!

2. The POOL! - now that Memorial Day has passed, the pools are open and in full swing. Pack up and head to the pool for some tanning (don't forget the sunscreen!) and some relaxation. Make sure to bring a lot of water, some snacks, sunscreen or some change if the ice cream man decides to come around.

3. 32nd Annual Wine & Food Festival - The annual wine and food festival is back again! Local wineries and top rated chefs come together at the wine and food festival to offer foodies and wine lovers a taste of the best. If you are interested in wine, the wine and food festival allows you to sample different wines from local wineries in the area and you can buy your favorite one! Also, top rated chefs are coming in to prepare delicious three course meals for taste testing as well! Click here for more information on the event taking place this weekend. Grab some friends or your significant other and spend the day tasting wine and trying delicious food!

Where: Bull Run Special Events Center, Centreville, VA
When: Saturday, June 1st and Sunday, June 2nd
Time: All Day
Price: $30 per person (presale tickets online)

4. Cicada Circus - We all know that talk about cicadas has been circling the web as well as all media sites and as we anxiously await for their arrival, we are mentally preparing ourselves for the big insects and their incessant buzzing. If you are interested in learning more about these insects that appear every 17 years, Hidden Oaks Nature Center located in Annandale, VA is hosting a Cicada Circus this weekend! You'll be able to see cicada up close and learn to tell the difference between male and female as well as some other interesting information about them.

Where: Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Annanadale, VA (7701 Royce St.)
When: Sunday, June 2nd
Time: 12:15pm - 1:15pm
Price: $5

5. Grilling, BBQ, Luau - Not interested in venturing out into the great heat coming this weekend? If you're not tired of grilling or having BBQ's, the weather is a great time to bring out the grill once again! Invite friends over for a potluck style BBQ session or even a lobster/crab festival! If you're really up to it, head to your local party store and invest in some tiki torches and lei's and have a luau with mixed drinks and potluck food. It'll be great to sit outside and relax in the weather surrounded by great company once again.

Truckeroo DC

Washington, DC - Food Truck Fiesta

The DC Food Truck Fiesta was today, located on 1/2 and M St! The festival features over 20 food trucks from DC in one location and also free music and drinks. Today was definitely the perfect day for going and the weather was perfect for walking around and exploring the food trucks. I went with my best fwend, Perry. We drove into DC and found some parking and ventured out to our first food truck experience in Washington, DC. We tried food from four different trucks: the Halal Grill, Big Cheese, an ice cream truck and Doug the Food Dude. Each was really different and offered us something unique, but the prices for food trucks are definitely on the higher side. I'd love to try more, but my wallet definitely cannot handle eating at a food truck all the time.

Cool Mint Sensation

Today, I had an interview with The Curious Grape for a position as a "Cheese Bartender". As a cheese bartender, I would be plating cheese, plating desserts, helping clients pair wine with their cheese and being a barista and working their espresso machine. I really hope that I get the position because I've always wanted to expand my knowledge about wine, cheese and coffee and knowing all about these three areas will definitely help me in the hospitality field. Woo! Not to mention, the pay is great and you also receive tip on top of that! Woo! So this summer is looking up to be really busy and will hopefully open up a lot of doors for me in the future. Anyways, this is my OOTD. Please ignore my derpy face, I never know how to pose for pictures like this... hehe (:

OOTD:
black maxi skirt (Rumors Boutique)
mint vneck (walmart)
gold elephant chain (f21)
leopard print Toms (gift  from my love pumpkin and dance partner)

clearly i am super attractive and extremely photogenic (; duhh

Summer 2013

It is officially the start of Summer 2013, the summer before my senior year of college! Some of my plans for this summer include:
  • finding an internship
  • traveling as much as possible
  • chronicling my outfits
  • using this blog a lot more!
So, I've had this blog for about a year and the last time I updated it was in July of 2012 when I was in Richmond for my summer internship with Rumors Boutique... basically this blog has been a fail since it's harder to keep up with than expected but hopefully this summer i'll be able to really work on this a lot more. I've wanted a somewhat "lifestyle" blog for a while now and this is the summer it will happen!

Let the adventure begin!
